Friday fodder

Helloooooooo to the weekend!

It's been a long week filled with a lot of work, not a lot of working out or TV watching. Although I was able to squeeze in Gossip Girl with some great Chuck Bass oneliners and let's not forget about Modern Family and Cam's shiny blue bike shorts.

Anyway, this weekend I'll be celebrating with Always a Bridesmaid and Alexa at Best of Cleveland party by Cleveland Magazine for Alexa's win of best blog for the second year in a row. So, if you are going tonight, look for a group of girls who are talking loud (because that's the only way we know how to), laughing and possibly dancing  and join in the on the fun.

when you are feeling down...

You know when you are having a bad day or your boyfriend pissed you off or your mom called to tell you something unimportant and annoyed you?

You  have those days too, right? Well when I'm having a bad day, I like to listen to certain music (insert British pop music) or I like to remind myself that it could get worse, which normally helps perk me up right away.

Well, if I need a laugh at the end of the long day or week, this video will always cheer me up. Always. I mean, have you actually ever seen a chicken do any of these things? No, never! But, Jason Batemen is still one fine actor, if I do say so myself.

And, he sings

If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I a) love Lady Gaga and b) have been caught singing in the shower by the BF.

Because he thought it "was only right" that I shared my singing-in-the-shower videos, I thought it "was only right" to tape what I had to listen to this week while he was working.

I love that we have a separate office space now in our house. When we lived in the apartment, we only had the dining room area to work and both had to utilize that space. It wasn't easy to get work done there because it connected directly with the living room.

So, on this random week night, the BF is upstairs in the office working away, blaring my iTunes from my ancient computer and belting out part of the lyrics. He thinks my music sucks. Phrases often heard from him: "You have no taste in music. Who ARE half of these people? You have....techno? Lots of techno!"

For all those times you made fun of my music catalog, apparently you really did like some of the music after all, huh?

Do Not Playlist

If the BF and I ever decided to get married and host a traditional reception, there are several songs that will not be on the playlist. I will draft a separate "Do Not Playlist" contract if needed and if one of those songs are played, I'm not paying them. I don't care if the band/DJ tells me that these songs "really get the crowd moving," they aren't playing at any type of wedding function related to me.

Songs on my Do Not Playlist
Locomotion
Shout
Macarena
Electric Slide
Hokey Pokey
YMCA
Cha Cha Slide
C'mon N' Ride It (The Train)

And, no matter how many times my mom begs for the band or DJ to play it, there will be no Brick House by the Commodores.

I'm not sure when my dislike for this song started but it was kick-started this morning as it came on the radio when I was waking up from a great night of slumber. The LAST song I want to hear in the morning or at any wedding.

If you have been married or been to a lot of weddings like me, what are your favorite worst songs to be played?

Being a princess is hard

Today I was in a rush to get to TEDxCLE in a snow storm hitting Cleveland. In my rush to get the hell out of the apartment in order to not be late, apparently I left on my treasured flat iron. The BF sent me a nice reminder e-mail that I left it on.

Subject line: You're a fire hazard......

E-mail copy: Guess who left her flat iron in the on position- burning hot this morning?? That’s right princess!

Well, we princesses aren't perfect ALL the time, BF.

Hello Cleveland! I'm in Houston through the rest of the weekend with Jessica and Katelin, but I would like to direct you over to my fabulous real life and blogger friend, Alexa, who shares why we aren't the most miserable city.

For all of you who want to visit Cleveland, don't let this little article stop you by that well-known magazine, Forbes.

Come visit and a few of us Cleveland bloggers will direct you to our great restaurants and bars, neighborhoods all over Cleveland with interesting shops and people who own them, and yes, we will show you our burning river.

give me back my snooki

Let me go on the record and say, I don't think any amount of "making over" Snooki is necessary.

Hello! America loves her for the short, bouncy guidette that she is.

Insider Edition, don't take away her signature bump! If you do, she looks like every other dark-haired little mama hitting the clubs on the Saturday night on the Jersey Shore.

Look at her made over! You don't want to call her Snooki. You want to call her Nicole or Nikki or Nicolette or even Mrs. Snooki. Snooki doesn't roll of your tongue as nicely when you see her in a tailored dress instead of the "shirts" she buys at Rave and Deb and wears as a dress.

This is how we like to see her. Bump, pouty lips, long faux nails and a pair of aviators dangling off her hand. Although with the $10,000 she is making an episode, let's upgrade the bag to something like a Gucci, honey. You will have all the guidettes screaming your name then.

Friday Fodder

I'm not a morning person. I try to become better at it, but I've been known to hit snooze more than two times before getting out of bed.

I also don't wake up to beeping. I like to wake up to the radio. Well, in Cleveland, you never know what kind of music you are going to get so I'm picking with my stations.

Judge me now, but I can't wake up to our pop radio stations because I will the songs stuck in my head, find myself hating Ne-Yo because it's the song that wakes me up.

I found this christian pop station (I know, all sorts of ironic) but I don't know any of the songs, therefore, I won't get annoyed by what's blaring me to get my ass out of bed.

Until. This. Morning

I seriously woke up to this blaring in my ears.

What the hell did I turn my Friday into?

Friday Fodder

I saw this video on a friend's blog and on Twitter. She might be the cutest girl of all time belting out her love of Michael Jackson. I especially love the fist pumping and eye closing for extra emphasis.

Too freaking cute.

Happy Friday!

Shortest fuse

Canon Ball! This entire week I have been a loose canon. Not only do I have the shortest attention span, I also have a shorter fuse more than ever this week.

[Editor's note: I apologize in advance for anyone I hung up on without saying goodbye. You know I have bad phone etiquette especially when I think the conversation is over but you still keep talking on the other end. I will try not to do that anymore.]

I have dropped one too many f-bombs for no apparent reason.

I have yelled at my computer when it freezes.

I have yelled at People.com for the ridiculousness it calls news with Jon Gosselin. Take a poll, please, because Americans would ask you to stop reporting. Remember when E! News asked viewers if they were done with Heidi and Spencer? And they stopped reporting about them.

I am continually freaked out by the serial killer living in Cleveland.

Did I mention I've threatened to throw my computer? As if it even knows this....

I have deleted one too many friend e-mails about possible weekend plans. (I'm working and can't be distracted because if I am, my Explorer window would freeze.)

Whew. I feel better.

Even with my crazy emotional roller coaster that could kick Millenium Force's ass, I still made it through this week intact - or at least I think I did. Maybe we have to ask the BF for a better opinion.

We will now return to your regularly scheduled program version of Allison.

Happy Friday and I need a Christmas Ale.

Friday Fodder

Ever since the start of Facebook, it has garnered its share of nicknames, including being most known as the Stalkerbook. It's a legit, yet sort of creepy, way to check in on our friends or not-so-friends to see what they are up to nowadays.

Well, for every non-stalker on Facebook, we all have ours waiting in the wings to pop out and scare the shit of us. It could be a message from an ex-boyfriend, an ex-hook up or that crazy friend from high school from out of the blue that jets us right back to reality, reminding us to be careful of what we post on our pages.

This little gem came from a friend of mine. She's not friends with him on Facebook and hasn't talked to him in years. However, we know he's been watching her from the looks of his message, which was conveniently sent at 1:30 a.m.

To my friend from a past friend who is not currently her friend on Facebook
"I know that this is completely out of the blue but (insert name).... I really just would finally like to tell you something that i have kept to myself since we were in 5th grade. You are by farrrrrr THEE most beautiful woman i honestly have ever laid eyes on. I wish we were closer cause I also thought you were cool to hang out with but.... I understand. Even though this is somewhat really awkward I hope everything is great. Wow i feel kinda awkward."

Although she agrees it's flattering in a roundabout way, she is pretty embarrassed and may need to set some of her settings more private this weekend.

So, she would like to know - does she friend him now or "pretend" she didn't see the message?

My answer - No, no and no.

Happy Friday.

Friday Fodder

This gem of a post comes courtesy of the BF.

The next four minutes will bring you back to early 2000 when pop music was dominated by Carson Daly, TRL and the Backstreet Boys. Plus, it make you laugh your ass off.

What's also disturbingly funny is how well these boys know and love this song. You know they serenade their girlfriends or boyfriends with their rendition of this song.

Enjoy and happy Friday.

Friday Flashback Fodder

I think I'm going to mix up my Friday Fodder with a Friday Flashback. I'm going to feature all those really good but bad songs and videos that we all used to love. (Or maybe I just loved them.)

I'm starting it off with none other than Mr. Bobby Brown. After watching his Behind the Music yesterday, I recalled my love for "Every Little Step" you take.

How can you not love spandex with suspenders and suit jackets with your name on it?

Classic 80's style.

Friday Fodder

Because I find this too funny not to post right away. Even if it's not really technically on Friday, but what is more funny than seeing their boyfriend try to put on a chicken suit in the middle of Target?

You wonder why he was in Target trying on a chicken suit? We only went to get contact solution and cookie dough. I was going to bake cookies and he laughed at me and suggested Toll House cookie dough because it's already prepared - and equally delicious.

We couldn't just pick up those two items and he made me "do a lap" which included the Halloween costumes and the toy aisle.

Friday Fodder

For some reason, I wanted to hear sappy 80s pop music today and I'm not quite sure. Some of these 80s songs make me instantly happy.

Venus - Bananarama
How can we be lovers if we can't be friends - Michael Bolton
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley
Party all the Time - Eddie Murphy
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper

But, I'm pretty sure these vampires would challenge those biatches from Twilight any day.

P.S. Was the person who choreographed this video drunk? Or maybe the girls made it up themselves.

Friday Fodder

A random morning conversation I had with my boyfriend.

BF: "Alllison," the bF says in a low whisper.

"Allison", he says again and this time I hear him.

Me: "What are you whispering over there?"

BF: "Kiss me through the phone."

Me: "What is wrong with you?"

BF: "I had a dream last night I was on stage singing that song."

Me: Thinking he must still be asleep because he is still laying in bed. "Are you serious right now? Do you hear what you are saying? You hate that song."

BF: "I know, but girls were pulling at my legs at the front of the stage and I was signing the song."

Me: Now, I'm laughing hysterically because he's still laying in bed telling me this stupid story after he has shut off that song every time I play it.

Silence for awhile.

BF: "Kiss me through the phone....How does the rest of it go?"

Friday Fodder

The word "Daddy" by girls over the age of 7 makes my skin crawl.

eewwwwwwww. Blah. Gross. Sick.

Why on earth would a grown women ever use that word to refer to their father? It drives me crazy when you hear women use that word in a high-pitched voice and then pout their lips. Um. No. It's gross.

Have you ever seen Fool's Gold? (I'm not ashamed to admit I caught it while flipping through HBO.) The girl who plays the old guy's 16-year-old daughter constantly refers to him as "daddy." Now, she's on one of my favorite shows, Entourage, and I can think of is her in the movie Fool's Gold. I can't see her as Eric's new toy for the moment. Every Sunday night I picture her not as Eric's girlfriend, but the 16-year-old who called her dad "daddy" 45,343 times throughout the movie.

Other words that creep me out:

Panties - sick.
Moist - sick.
The P word - so sick.
Suck - yes, I hate that word. I hate that word used in any form. I hate it more when something doesn't go my way, I tell a friend and their response is "Oh, well that sucks."

What words, if any, creep you out?

Friday Fodder

Surprise! I'm in Vegas with my girlfriends but I couldn't help but share a video. As I was packing, I taped Toddlers & Tiaras last night and the BF was shocked and gave me "are you f'ing serious" look. Who cares. I wanted to see what this pageant life is all about.

I find it fascinating and disturbing all at the same time. The whole look of these little girls freaks me out. No ONE dresses like that, not even their moms, so why the hell do they dress them up like Malibu Barbie on steroids?

Tim Gunn needs to put in a 911 call to help these pageant folks out. ASAP.

Not only are they glammed up like 80s drag queens, they give them new teeth called a flipper. You know, because having a missing tooth isn't glamorous for a beauty queen.

And this mother isn't a stage mom at all.

Friday Fodder

A reenactment of a phone call with my mom yesterday.

Ring, Ring, Ring!
Me: As I answer my phone, "Hi Mom."

My mom: Sounding surprised I answered my own cell phone, "ohh..Allison?"

Me: Yes mom, it's me.

My mom: Oh.(Once again surprised I answer my cell phone as if she was expecting someone else.) What are you doing?

Me: I'm having dinner with my friend.

My mom: Gets excited, "Oh a blog friend. Are you eating dinner with a blog friend? Maybe it's that plum?

Me: No, it's a non-blog friend. You know, one I met in real life first.

My Mom: "Oh, OK then, call me when you are done."
