While I should be blogging about what fun I had this weekend, which included a bachelorette party and a relaxing and lazy pool day with my friend and the most adorable bulldog puppy, Mira, instead I'm done. Stick in a fork in me - can.not.blog.tonight. Too much laughing, drinking and not enough sleeping.
I'll leave you with a little humor from the Real Housewives franchise - the hilarious trainwreck from the DC show.
What is Michaele doing? Is that how I look dancing because I have no rhythm and clearly neither does she?
Bump it?
Really?
While the song isn't about the hair accessory, wouldn't it be ah-mazing if someone sang a song called "scrunchie?" I think it would be hysterical. AND, even better if Rebecca Black sang it.

Avoiding words with "s" in them
I feel like I'm 13 again because I decided to get another retainer to fix some minor (and I mean minor) teeth alignment with my bottom front row.
Look, I have a teeth thing. Without the braces I received years ago, I never would have had a chance of having straight teeth. They were coming up from my gums in all sorts of weird angles. (We can blame my dad for the horse teeth and my mom for the small mouth.)
After seeing my dentist for a routine visit, I explained how that tooth is bothering me so after the gross and quick teeth molds, I have a new retainer bringing me right back to 8th grade.
Now, let's just hope I don't throw it away on my lunch tray on accident once or three times.
P.S. I don't remember the pain being this annoying. Here's to a month of wearing a retainer.
Happy weekend!
Update: Want to pull it out after 6 hours of wear. OMG, it's going to be a long month.

to journal or not
The past few weeks I haven't been blogging near enough. I like to post at least twice a week but it's been only once and I've been doing a lot of stuff. I haven't been just sitting at home watching reruns of Sex and the City. (Although that still sounds fun.)
A little known fact is that I've been writing this blog for almost four years. It will be four years in July 7. I was looking back through old posts and laughing to myself because I didn't know what the hell I was doing when I first started this thing. (No need to look back, it's not too pretty.) My friends and family didn't understand it and then others still share how "they don't have time for something like that" when I share I'm a blogger.
Through this little domain, I've met some fantastic people all over the US and in Cleveland who I never would have met otherwise. The funny thing is a lot of us are more alike then we know and even have similar careers whether it's in marketing, advertising or public relations.
Having a blog always felt somewhat natural to me. Maybe because I had a pen pal (yes, seriously I did) when I was kid and have always wrote down my thoughts in some way. Way back when it was in a stylish diary complete with a key so my mom couldn't get into it.
I then graduated to adult journals because having something with a key and looking like it was taken out of the Babysitter's Club didn't seem so appropriate anymore, you know?
Do you keep a journal or use your blog to blast out your thoughts?

the word game
I have a few words or phrases that drive me up and over the damn wall. And, there's one that is For some reason, "100 percent" has caught like wild fire and EVERYONE uses it, even my beloved New York housewives use it.
It's EVERYWHERE!
My friends all over the country are saying it.
Maybe it's the fact that certain people use it to add extra emphasis at unnecessary times but it drives me nuts. It's like nails against a chalk board. Do you hear the screeching?
I'm also not a fan of see-you-next-tuesday or the stupid word that people refer to as a cat either.
Bah! I'm cringing over here just thinking about saying those words.
Deep thoughts from Allison.
In other news, it's Friday!

he's a comedian too
If you know the BF in real life, you know he's some kind of crazy character and if you only know him online, I'm sure you still think he's some kind of crazy character based on the stories I share.
He is always sharing random information that I wish he would just keep to himself. Like the time he told me he loved the movie Titanic, or how he can rap old school Notorious B.I.G. or sing along to Bell Biv Devoe.
Random thoughts from the BF:
While listening to rap music in the car, "Babe, I should've been an R&B artist. They'd call me Lil' Tweezy."
While watching making him watch the Mariah Carey takeover on Fuse, "you know, I had a mix CD with some Mariah on it. The ladies loovvvveed it."
On a random car ride, 50 Cent's "In Da Club" comes on and I say, "Oh, how this song reminds me of college" and I remember the hilarious times with my friends on College St. in Kent State. He adds, "This song reminds me of grinding on girls in the basement of Blind Pig."
I think he needs to be hosed off with disinfectant after that comment.

there's still hope for me
I think I've openly shared how I can't dance.
I have no rhythm.
I can't even do a correct cartwheel.
I really can't.
I once thought it would be a great idea to join the cheerleading squad my senior year. Thankfully, I saved myself from major embarrassment and didn't end up trying out. I mean, I can't do a freaking cartwheel!
So, I have hope. Yes, I do.
Because of these commercials.
Let me introduce you to Dance Central for Kinect. It's saving women without rhythm all over the planet.
Based on the promo, I really feel like I can get out there and shake my tail feather to Cascada's Evacuate the Dancefloor. And not look like I'm convulsing uncontrollably with my arms and legs flopping all over the place.
Well, at least not as bad as I usually would convulse.

four eyes
Jesus, these glasses are finally done. Kaput. The end.
This has been four years in the making and he has finally decided to replace his spectacles with two new pairs. I can't tell you how long I've made comments about these lovely glasses. The BF even nicknamed them the "pewters."
I mean, look at these things?
I think he's had these since 1995, don't you?
They sit crooked on your face and the once clear nose pads aren't so clear anymore.
Now. If we could only get rid of that chair with the leopard pillows.....
....and alarm clock with the lamest sticker NOT added by me.
RIP the pewters. You won't be missed.

perfumania
In my non-expert opinion, I think the perfume you wear says lot about you. How long have you worn it? Do you switch by season? Do you switch by relationships? It's amazing how you can recall where you were when you smell a fragrance of the past, or, at least I seem to have that super power.I'm not one to keep wearing the same fragrance over and over. I like to try new scents when the bottle runs out versus going to pick up the same one, season after season.
As I was going through the duty-free shop on my home in Cancun, I found my new favorite fragrance (Flora by Gucci) that is a close second to Viktor & Rolf, which I've been obsessed with purchasing after my Viva la Juicy by Juicy Couture and Daisy by Marc Jacobs.
Let's review my past lives through perfume, shall we?
Love spell from Victoria's Secret reminds me of high school. It reminds me of my senior year of high school where I would buy the lotion and body spray and spray everything with it. My room, my hair and my gym bag for volleyball. Luckily for everyone, it wasn't that potent.
Givenchy very irresistible reminds me of my junior year of college when I lived in townhomes at Kent. I owned the perfume for a few days until I realized it must've fallen in the trash can. Still annoyed by that.
Vera Wang princess reminds me of my first apartment post college
When I first dated the BF, I remember "looking for something in his medicine cabinet" and found quite the interesting selection of skunked colognes. First, there was a bottle of Joop!, yes that Joop!, from 1999 and he was apparently keeping it for some unknown reason. There was also a more recent bottle of Curve, then Acqua di gio and then finally Jean Paul Gaultier LE MALE. He still wears LE MALE and will switch it up with another one but he finally tossed the skunked Joop! a few years ago.
So, what perfumes do you love and hate to wear or smell?

And, he sings
If you've been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I a) love Lady Gaga and b) have been caught singing in the shower by the BF.
Because he thought it "was only right" that I shared my singing-in-the-shower videos, I thought it "was only right" to tape what I had to listen to this week while he was working.
I love that we have a separate office space now in our house. When we lived in the apartment, we only had the dining room area to work and both had to utilize that space. It wasn't easy to get work done there because it connected directly with the living room.
So, on this random week night, the BF is upstairs in the office working away, blaring my iTunes from my ancient computer and belting out part of the lyrics. He thinks my music sucks. Phrases often heard from him: "You have no taste in music. Who ARE half of these people? You have....techno? Lots of techno!"
For all those times you made fun of my music catalog, apparently you really did like some of the music after all, huh?

new centerpiece
When the BF came home the other day, I saw him put something on the table in the kitchen. From my view from the living room, it looked like a statue of sorts sitting on the kitchen table.
BF: "Honnnneeeeeyyyyy! Check this out."
Me: "Check what out?" as I get up from my ridiculously comfortable couch
BF: "Look at what my team won for coming in last place in the golf outing."
Me: Still looking at it.
BF: "Where should we put it and what bottle of wine should put it in it?"
I don't know, where should we put this readers?

don't call my name....
In honor of tomorrow's Lady Gaga concert, here's another :16 seconds of my glorious sounding voice singing my own rendition of Alejandro.
Note to self: Add a lock on bathroom door and don't tell the BF the password to my iPhone.
P.S. I'll be there in my hairbow and all!

pajamas are the lastest rage
First, there were skinny jeans, which I was against at first and now own several pairs.
Then, jeggings, which my friends at B. Lux try to convince me to buy.
Now, pajama jeans.
Apparently I've been living under a rock because I've never heard of pajama jeans.
What's next? Pajamas onesie? Pajama winter coats?
Guess I know what I'm getting all my friends for Christmas.

bathroom conversations
It's come to my attention that women like to have in-depth conversations in the bathroom. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Picture yourself getting up from your desk and you head to the bathroom to do number 1. You walk into the bathroom, notice two women having a conversation and enter the stall. You assume they will wash their hands, squirt a dash of Purell and be on their merry way.
Nope. Doesn't happen.
As I start to relieve myself, the women continue their conversation.
And continue their conversation, and keep on freaking talking! There's no washing hands, there's no Purelling, there's just a continued conversation as I pee.
Look, I love to BS with my coworkers, but I ask you, move the conversation from the bathroom into the hallway.
It's uncomfortable for me to pee when people are chatting it up right outside my stall.
I've been known to strike up my coworker as I wash my hands but I try to quickly move whatever conversation we are having outside of the bathroom. I don't want to hang out in there.
But it doesn't stop there. I was at a wedding this weekend where two women decided to scatter their make-up kits and reapply their faces. I walked in and went to the bathroom and listened to the women talk about how "she weighed 98 pounds before giving birth and was the same weight after" as she applied another line of black eyeliner.
Reapplying eyeliner I get, but dumping your entire make-up kit on the counter is a little over the top. I have a feeling there were in there for a good 20 minutes.
Of all the rooms to hang out, I'd like to pick one with a better ventilation system. Just sayin'.

days go by....
...to damn fast.
I ask you - How is it already the end of May?
How?
After I got home yesterday from an off site (and long) work day, I realized it was Memorial Day weekend. If it's almost Memorial Day, that means it's almost June which is almost the start of summer.
I swear it was just Easter and I was visiting my family. I swear!
Where was Spring? Did I miss that season in Cleveland?!
Remember when you were a kid and summers felt like they lasted forever? Or it seemed to take a bizillion years to get to Christmas break or even spring break? Those days are long gone now.
My days fly by so fast now for me. Days turn into weeks and before I know it, we've already reached the end of the month and I'm left wondering, "Where the eff did the month go?"
And, that is EXACTLY what happened today.

a gift is from the heart
When I moved out my parent's house a few years ago, my mom decided to pack up what was left of my life and put it all in my closet. All of my belongings from 18 and under exist in that closet. My girl scout sash, my diaries, junior high notes passed between friends and picture upon picture from when I was baby through my teen years.
I took a single box from the closet which was filled with some of the pictures and took it to my new home. (It's about time, right?)
Isn't it cute?

My friend Laura made it for a few of her friends before we went off to college. As I was flipping through the photos of my early years, you know, the ones where your mom let you dress yourself because it was "soooo cute," I don't understand why I was allowed to dress myself.
Please notice the bunch of bangle bracelets and socks w/ jelly shoes (No idea why I have a black eye or why I am only wearing one color of the rainbow or why I have bangs from ear to ear.)

I stumbled across a few questionable high school pictures and it reminded me of one of my favorite presents my mom ever bought me.
My Victoria's Secret water bra.
You know you had one, don't be embarrassed. I can't post the picture because I'm actually lifting up my shirt to prove I have a water bra.(As if my friends didn't believe me so apparently I felt the need to show everyone. I'm sure these photos will haunt me one day.)
But I can remember when I requested the bra as my big 18th birthday present. I'm sure my mom was stunned, shook her head and said, "You want what for your 18th birthday?" Not a shopping trip, or a Tiffany's bracelet or a new pair of shoes. Nope, not for me - I needed a water bra.
Seeing as mother's day and my mom's birthday is coming up in a month, maybe I need to return the favor and buy her some off the wall gift.
What should I get my lovely mother for mother's day and her birthday?

when I was a brownie....
It's hard to believe (I know) but years ago I was a Brownie. Not technically a Girl Scout, but a young dapper Brownie, wearing my brown vest proudly with all my badges my mom so nicely sewed on for me.
Do you need someone to rake you yard? I would if I received a badge. Babysit my brother you ask? Of course, as long as it was badge worthy.
I think I was only a Brownie for a whole two years. (Mom, if you are reading this, feel free to comment if that isn't accurate.) I never graduated to wear the green uniform. After a memorable sleepover in a cabin with my troops, I had enough of the troop (and the outdoors), so I begged my mom to let me quit.
The real reason I quit was because there was no competition from the girls. Outselling them in cookies was super easy. I kicked some serious cookie-selling ass in my little troop. I hit up all my aunts and uncles and walked around my neighborhood begging everyone to buy cookies. I buttoned my badged-out vest, grabbed my order sheet and shiny purple pen and strutted down Concord drive liked I owned the street in my jelly shoes with socks.
When I see a Brownie or Girl Scout, I smile and think of all the wonderful things they are learning from their troop. They are learning to volunteer, about nature, about friendship and leadership. But more importantly, I could still outsell their little asses one box of thin mints or caramel deLites at a time.
