birthday rewind

This past weekend, a few friends of mine gathered at the Battery Park Wine Bar to celebrate my impending birthday - I'm turning the big 2-8 this week. Hooray!

Somehow not one picture was snapped. I had not one but two Flips, a camera and the iPhone and I managed to take nothing to document the evening. But let's talk about what was missing - the cake.

I love cake. Cupcakes, mini cakes or a slice of cake, you name it, I love all things cake. As I looked through my photos of past birthdays, you can see my love of cake from a very young age.

Clearly, I'm loving some cake here

On my birthdays, my mom created a monster and let me order not one but two cakes, depending if I had just a family or friends party that year. My mom says I took picking a cake very seriously, so seriously, that I often picked the same theme for a few years.

Not only is the cake She-Ra, but I'm playing with one too

She-Ra two years in a row - check out those bangs

The next few years is when I started getting a little more creative with my cakes. I switched to my love of fairy tales and went with unicorns, a natural switch of course. After all, She-Ra did ride on a unicorn of sorts.

My brother creeping in on my unicorn cake - don't lay a finger on it, Greg.

I heart pink unicorns and crimped hair.

While I didn't order a cake this year, I would like to take this opportunity to request a few red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting from the White Flower Cake Shoppe. (BF - that's the shop inside of La Place that I always talk about. Mapquest it if needed.)

When it comes to your birthday, are you a cake or ice cream person?
